We are Rory and Patrice Whittle. Rory spent over 30 years in the food industry and Patrice in medical practice management. One day we woke up and thought, enough of this, left the rat race and back to the land we went. We started out raising meat goats and after 5 years we have evolved into breeders of critically endangered Heritage Large Black Hogs and Heritage Berkshire hogs, prized for their tenderness and superior flavor. This year we have started crossing the two. So far we are very pleased with the result.
We then came across a Spanish breed of cattle, Criollo. Criollo’s are a smaller thriftier breed leaving a smaller footprint on the environment. The are predisposed for tenderness and marbling on grass alone.
And what’s a farm without chickens? We will have eggs from our free range Black Autralorp Rhode Island Red, Barred Plymouth Rock and Delaware hens.
All of this is antibiotic, hormone, steroid and chemical free.
We are an Animal Welfare Approved farm for our Pork, Beef and eggs. The Animal Welfare Approved program audits and certifies family farms raising their animals humanely, outdoors on pasture or range. Farmers who earn the AWA seal benefit from having a third-party verification of their high-welfare practices and consumers benefit by knowing that the humane label means what it says. Animals are raised outdoors on pasture or range on true family farms with the “most stringent” humane animal welfare standards according to the World Society for the Protection of Animals. Annual audits are conducted by experts in the field We are very proud to have been approved by this organization. We hope you enjoy our products.
