We can’t believe it’s already May. Where did the first half of 2016 go? Before we know it, we’ll be talking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. (Yikes!) But for now, let’s focus on this week. Across the country, small business owners and their fans are celebrating National Small Business week. This is a time to recognize the significant contributions small businesses make to local economies and support their vision.
You may not realize it, but all the farmers and artisans who sell through the Co-op are small businesses. When you support them, you are promoting growth in the state and reinvesting your dollars to the Oklahoma economy. You’re also showing support for healthy, humane farming practices that are better for you, your family and our ecosystem. Every Oklahoma Food Co-op Producer passes strict quality standards before they are allowed to sell their products so you know you’re receiving excellent goods at reasonable prices.

May 2016 Producer Features
Amistad Farm: Chicken, including backs, hearts and livers, will be available this month. New inventory is now posted!
Wagon Creek Creamery: The first batch of mozzarella for the season is now available (in both blocks and shredded). Plus, small amounts of butter are up for grabs–get yours before it sells out!
Anichini-Moore Ranch & Farm: Ecologically-grown asparagus tips and onion scapes will be ready later on in the order cycle. Keep checking inventory to see when the new items are listed!
Celtic SuperCenter: Lots of new plants will be offered this month, including yarrow and mugwort. When used properly, these herbs have medicinal uses and are beautiful, too!
Pioneer Candle: For those of you looking to add some color to your next event, pick up a few packs of new 4″ and 6″ pure beeswax colored candles! Several new colors are available, including black and white, and are still completely safe and non-toxic to use.
Wichita Buffalo Company: As you’re spending more time outdoors, pick up a few nutritional snacks to take with you. There’s plenty of buffalo jerky and buffalo snack sticks that taste great and are portable, too!
If this is your first time trying the Co-op, you can shop during your first month without paying membership fees. If you’ve shopped with us before, you can try something new this month, as we’re always adding new Producers. Either way, we want to welcome you to the Co-op and thank you for your support.
Happy shopping, eating and living!
