The Oklahoma Food Project was started by the Romero Catholic Worker house as a food security and social justice project. Romero House is part of the worldwide Catholic Worker movement, founded by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in the 1930s. Romero Catholic Worker House is a lay religious community. Oscar Romero was the Archbishop of San Salvador, he was murdered by his own government in 1980, while celebrating mass, because he defended the poor and protected their rights.
